Walk past Majestic Square this week and you may be disappointed at the state of Wanganui's infrastructure development.
But don't worry, the council hasn't yet had to resort to recycling plastic bottles to use as building materials.
The structure dividing the square is actually a piece of artwork.
A long time in the making, three years, hundreds of travel hours and 1800 plastic bottles have brought Wanganui-based artist Tom Turner to conclusion of his project The Wailing Wall.
In parallel with Jerusalem's Wailing Wall, Mur des Lamentations, or place of weeping, that for centuries separated the site of a Jewish temple and Islamic mosque, a place where many communicate their lament; Turner's bottles conceal personal messages from collaborators in the construction of the wall.
To celebrate The Wailing Wall's third birthday, Turner and the wall have been in Majestic Square from 9am-4pm Monday through to today. And it will be at the River Trader's market on Saturday.
