Young farmers were surprised how popular their Country Comes To Town event was last year - and they're laying it on again next Saturday.
"We hope to achieve the same, if not better, this year.
"We would like to make it regular," Cooks Gardens functions and events manager Vallie Finlay said.
There will be sheep shearing, dog biscuit throwing, wild foods and agrisports such as fencing, all at Cooks Gardens in central Wanganui. Vintage machinery will be on display and there will be prizes for the winners of competitions such as the tug of war.
The Marton Country Music Club is to provide entertainment and there will be an auction, with 100 per cent of the proceeds going to Hospice Wanganui. One of the more unusual items under the hammer could be the Wanganui Young Farmers' Club chairman, Fraser Laird.
The day begins at 10.30am, and Miss Finlay said it would finish around 4pm.
Wanganui Young Farmers will put the takings from the gate charge - $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and a gold coin for children - toward running future events.
Country Comes To Town is an all-or-nothing, totally outdoor affair, Miss Finlay said. It will not run if the weather is bad.
To make sure it's on, listen for cancellations on Wanganui's local radio stations or check the Cooks Gardens Facebook page.
