Staff from Wanganui UCOL are expected to be out on strike today.
Nanette Cormack, the deputy secretary of the Tertiary Education Union, said about 200 staff over UCOL's three campuses would go out on strike.
"Members have been in bargaining for a number of months over pay increases, and they have decided to take strike action in support of bargaining," Ms Cormack said.
"They believe they deserve fair pay, and that's what they're asking for."
However, UCOL spokeswoman Christine Beech said classes would continue as usual.
She said both sides met yesterday when UCOL tabled an offer that included two additional days of paid leave in 2014, plus salary increases of up to 2 per cent, conditional upon improved government funding.
She said the union did not accept the offer and advised that today's strike would go ahead.
The union agreed to discuss the offer with their members in a few weeks' time.
"Our focus is on having plans in place to minimise any disruption to students in particular. I want to clarify that all UCOL's campuses are open and students are expected to attend class as timetabled," Mrs Beech said.
Union members picketed outside UCOL's three campuses in Januaryafter pay negotiations broke down.
