The New Zealand Defence Force has just released a final eight Waiouru Military Camp houses for sale and removal - the last of more than 135 camp houses to be disposed of in this way.
The solid, wooden-framed 1950s/1960s houses have proven popular with buyers previously. This final batch includes seven three-bedroom houses and one four-bedroom house in a mixture of external claddings.
Paul Hackett, from Britton's Housemovers in Bulls, says: "We have moved houses from Waiouru all over the North Island. Because the houses are solidly built, they normally move very easily, and we have many happy clients."
Jurgen Hoffman and Robin Waerea, who bought a house from the previous sale lot at Waiouru say they are very happy with the end result.
"We have a wonderful holiday home at the base of Mt Ruapehu. Buying a house from Waiouru was an affordable option and worked really well for us - the bonus being the old-fashioned charm that came with it," Mr Hoffman said.
The houses are being marketed by property consultants Land Matters on behalf of the New Zealand Defence Force and can be viewed on the Land Matters web site and on TradeMe.
Open days are planned for Saturday, February 15 and Saturday, February 22 from 10am-3pm. To register to attend, and for more information about the houses, see www.landmattersnz.com or phone 06 364 7293.
At the open days you are required to sign in at the site office at 7 Andrews Drive, Waiouru, where you will be given a location plan of the houses for sale. Land Matters spokesperson Sam Pritchard said: "Over 135 houses have now sold from Waiouru and we have been very happy with the strong interest shown in these houses. Most purchasers have recognised the character and potential."
