A Wanganui man was warned to let go of a life-long feud or face jail time.
Julian John Giles, 31, pleaded guilty to wilful damage after admitting slashing all four tyres of a van belonging to another man. The incident happened on December 22 at Bignell St Caravan Park, after the two men argued.
Giles, representing himself at Wanganui District Court, said he had known the victim for a long time and they had a bad history.
He claimed the victim had once broken his arm, and also claimed the man had abused one of his family members.
"I've carried this anger for a long time," he said.
"Have you got it out of your system yet?" Judge David Cameron asked.
"Yes ... well, maybe," Giles replied. "I can assist you with that if you ever come back," Judge Cameron said.
"You are not doing yourself any favours by engaging in criminal activity.
"And may I remind you that you are the one standing in front of me, not your victim."
Judge Cameron sentenced Giles to 80 hours' community service, and ordered him to pay $900 reparation.
"Please don't come back here or I will send you to prison," was Judge Cameron's parting shot as Giles left the dock.
