While we're used to glass, neither of us has worked with snow and in such low temperatures - often below -28C.Lisa Walsh, glass artist Waverley-based glass artists Lisa and Jimi Walsh are currently making art with material of a very different kind.
The husband and wife team are in China, representing New Zealand at the 2014 Harbin International Ice Festival Sister City Snow Sculpting Competition. Harbin is South Taranaki's Chinese sister city.
Mrs Walsh said the competition was the largest ice festival in the world and attracted sculptors from all parts of the globe.
"While we're used to glass, neither of us has worked with snow and in such low temperatures - often below -28C."
The competition forms part of the annual Ice & Snow Festival held in Harbin every year from December to February. It runs until January 10.
When the Walshes return to Waverley, they will begin work on their Harbin glass exhibition, a collection of works about their experiences in China. This will be shown during the annual Artists Open Studios Whanganui in March.
Before becoming glass artists, both were sculptors working in the film industry.
