An alumna of Wanganui Brass Band is set to play the Edinburgh Tattoo for the second time.
Wanganui's Lisa Crawley left for Scotland this week to play the tenor horn at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo for the New Zealand Army Band. Before joining the army, she attended Wanganui High School and played for the Wanganui Brass Band.
She joined the army in 2007. "I needed a career to get me started in life and the NZ Army Band was, and still is, the only place in New Zealand that you can be a full-time brass band musician."
Though it's her second time at the world-famous concert of military bands and display teams, "It's pretty exciting; it probably won't hit me until I'm at the airport."
Private Crawley spends her days rehearsing, marching and completing general administration for the army and is editor of band magazine Esprit De Corps. She recommends a career in the army. "It's a great place to make lifelong friends, get a trade, experience and discipline."
The Edinburgh Tattoo runs from August 2 to 24.
