Wanganui is hosting some grand old ladies of the car world this Easter Weekend.
Members of the Ford 8 & 10 Car Club - and their cars - are meeting in Wanganui for their biennial Easter Rally.
Organiser Pat Carrick said 10 club members left Auckland on Thursday, spent the night in National Park, then came down the Whanganui River Road yesterday morning. Five club members from Taranaki are due to arrive today.
Tomorrow the rally, which is held in a different location every two years, will take the cars out through Fordell and on to lunch in Marton before coming back to Wanganui via Turakina.
Mr Carrick said there were around 50 club members in New Zealand, with he and wife Sandra the only members in Wanganui.
The oldest car this weekend is Gavin Welche's 1934 Ford Y Roadster.
Mr Carrick said a couple of the cars had struggled with the big hill at the Wanganui end of the River Road, and one or two had had to be pushed the last few metres to the top.
The "8 & 10" in the club's name referred to the number of horsepower in the cars' engines.
"They're just little Fords," Mr Carrick said.
