Swimming
Kate Sims provided the highlight for Wairarapa at the national junior swimming championships, held simultaneously in Auckland and Wellington over the weekend.
Sims, from the Masterton club, was competing in the girls 11yrs grade and won silver medals in the 50m butterfly with a time of 32.61s and the 100m butterfly with a time of 1min 14.25s.
She had two other top 10 finishes as well, sixth in the 200m butterfly in 2min 48.88s and seventh in the 200m freestyle in 2min 29.96s.
Apart from Sims those to make it into the top 10 on national rankings were:
Zachary Hullah (Carterton), boys 10yrs and under: Seventh in 50m backstroke in 38.83s, 10th in 100m butterfly in 1min 31.81s.
Noemi Leinfeller (Masterton) girls 11yrs: Seventh in 200m individual medley in 2min 51.33s, seventh in 100m freestyle in 1min 8.54s, eighth in 200m freestyle in 2min 30.35s, 10th in 200m backstroke in 2min 49.85s.
Mitchell Cockburn (Masterton), boys 12yrs: 10th in 100m freestyle in 1min 4.53s.
Tom Parker (Carterton) boys 10yrs and under: 10th in 200m breaststroke in 3min 26.01s, 10th in 100m breaststroke in 1min 37.92s. Dallas Swaneveld (Carterton), boys 11yrs: Ninth in 200m backstroke in 2min 53.29s.
