Wairarapa were crushed by an innings and 54 runs by Manawatu in the last of their Hawke Cup zone two senior men's cricket matches played at Fitzherbert Park, Palmerston North over the weekend.

Trailing by a massive 148 runs after the first innings, the Wairarapa second innings lasted just 29.2 overs and produced a paltry 94 runs. In fact, the only batsmen to make it into double figures were skipper Henry Cameron, whose 20 came off 23 balls, and Jarred Watt who came in at No10 and struck four fours and one six in his 22 off 15 balls.

There was some useful resistance to what was an accurate Manawatu attack also from Joe Hull, who had top scored with 46 in Wairarapa's first innings. His nine came off 54 balls and makeshift opener Sean Jarvis faced 28 balls for his four after scoring a gritty 15 from 96 balls in the first innings.

The loss of Harry Clinton-Baker, Hull, Sam Curtis and Alex Treseder with the score at 48 severely dented Wairarapa's hopes of a decent second innings score.

Short scoreboard: Wairarapa 195 (Jarvis 15, Lucas 1, Hull 46, Cameron 27, Clinton-Baker 5, Curtis 1, Treseder 29, Foster 31 not out, Mann 17, Watt 2, McKenna 3, extras 18; Patel 3-38, Templeman 3-56) and 94 (Jarvis 4, Lucas 6, Hull 9, Cameron 20, Clinton-Baker 2, Curtis 0, Treseder 0, Foster 2, Mann 9, Watt 22, Hook 9 not out, extras 11; Richards 5-23) lost to Manawatu 343-3 (Murray 146, Renwick 66, Small 101 not out; Watt 16-3-55-1, Hook 5-0-30-0, McKenna 12-0-59-0, Mann 17-3-61-1, Foster 2-0-23-0, Cameron 12.4-0-63-1, Treseder 4-0-20-0 and Jarvis 1-0-13-0) by an innings and 54 runs.
