Win keeps Masterton in touch with leaders

Masterton blitzed Gladstone 8-1 in their Wairarapa regional one tennis fixture on Saturday.

It was a comprehensive win on every score for Masterton, which won five of the six singles matches and all three of the doubles.

Chad Parsons, Duncan Oakley, Jamie McMaster, Georgia Atkinson and Zoe Paris all took out their singles in straight sets for Masterton while the sole win for Gladstone came from Scott Day.

Results, Masterton names first.-

Men's singles: Chad Parsons beat Angus Preston 6-1, 6-2; Duncan Oakley beat James Stevens 6-2, 6-1; George Passi lost to Scott Day 5-7, 3-6; Jamie McMaster beat Adam Smith 6-4, 6-4.

Women's singles: Georgia Atkinson beat Tracey Donald 6-1, 7-5; Zoe Paris beat Dianne Thurston 6-2, 6-1.

Men's doubles: Parsons and Oakley beat Preston and Stevens 6-2, 6-2; Passi and McMaster beat Day and Smith 4-6, 7-6, 6-1.

Women's doubles: Atkinson and Paris beat Donald and Thurston 6-1, 6-0.

In the other regional one fixture Opaki were too strong for Martinborough, winning 7-2.

Results, Opaki names first:

Men's singles: Brett Dymond beat Andy Darling 2-6, 6-1, 6-3; Chris Davidson beat Bruce Lovell 6-2, 6-3; Jon McNab lost to Campbell Venning 2-6, 6-7; Andy Colvin beat Tom Lovell 6-1, 6-0.

Women's singles: Katie Wyeth beat Rhona Lovell 5-7, 6-1, 6-3; Rebecca Perry lost to Libby Paterson (no score listed).

Men's doubles: Dymond and McNab beat Darling and Venning 6-3, 6-4; Davidson and Colvin beat Lovell and Lovell 6-0 6-1.

Women's doubles: Wyeth and Perry beat Lovell and Paterson 6-3, 6-0.Martinborough and Opaki share the competition lead with 50 points followed by Masterton on 43 and Gladstone on 17.
