Waicol move into handy cricket lead


Wairarapa College have taken a clear lead in the Wairarapa Cricket Association's Umpire's Cup senior men's limited-overs competition.

Their 42-run win over Rathkeale College last weekend took Wairarapa College to 14 points, and they lead by four points from A1 Homes Kuranui Old Boys, whose unbeaten run ended with a narrow defeat by Red Star in their most recent match.

Four teams, Flight Centre Lansdowne, Turkey Red Greytown, Rathkeale College and Red Star, all sit on six points while yet to break their duck are Newbolds Marist Old Boys.

In open grade matches last weekend, Greytown No 2, Lansdowne No 2 and Marist Old Boys secured victories.

Lansdowne No 2 head the Times-Age Cup points table with 10, followed by Marist Old Boys and Greytown 2 on 6, Rathkeale 2 and Wairarapa College 2 on 4, Wairarapa College Colts 2 and Lansdowne 3 zero.

Opening matches in the The Rock Twenty20 senior men's competition will be held tomorrow night with a 5.15pm start. The draw is: Wairarapa College v Red Star at Wairarapa College 1, Newbolds Marist Old Boys v Turkey Red Greytown at Park Sports 1, A1 Homes Kuranui Old Boys v Rathkeale at Kuranui artificial, Flight Centre Lansdowne bye.

The interclub draw for Saturday - Umpires Cup senior, noon start: Flight Centre Lansdowne v Turkey Red Greytown at Queen Elizabeth Park Oval, Rathkeale v Red Star at Rathkeale Oval, Newbolds Marist Old Boys v A1 Homes Kuranui Old Boys at Park Sports 2, Wairarapa College a bye.

Open grade, 1pm start: Wairarapa College 2 v Marist Old Boys 2 at Wairarapa College 1, Rathkeale 2 v Wairarapa College Colts at Rathkeale artificial 2, Lansdowne 3 v Lansdowne 2 at Park Sports 1, Greytown 2 bye.
