Wairarapa police have been investigating a series of burglaries to residential and commercial addresses in Martinborough during the past month.
On Thursday, a 19-year-old man was arrested and charged with six burglaries relating to commercial and residential premises in the town.
The man appeared in the Masterton District Court yesterday.
Police said the inquiries are continuing and they are confident that more arrests will follow. Detective Sergeant Dean Cadwallader of the Tactical Crime Unit said the arrest was a significant step forward in addressing the spate of burglaries in the area.
Martinborough residents needed to ensure their premises and vehicles were secure at all times, he said.
Mr Cadwallader said people should contact police should they note any behaviour that is suspicious or out of the ordinary.
