A fire crew had to cut a driver from his car following a two-car collision on Chapel St yesterday morning .
Shortly after 8am, a southbound Suzuki sedan on Chapel St and a Honda Civic coming out of the Kuripuni petrol station collided.
The impact on the driver's side spun the Honda into the opposite lane.
After a fire crew cut a rear passenger door off, ambulance officers used a neck brace and back support to ease the conscious driver on to a stretcher and into a waiting ambulance.
The driver of the Suzuki was checked out by an ambulance crew but was unhurt.
Police at the scene said it was too early to say what had happened.
Employees at Stewart Electrical Supplies, opposite the site, heard the collision.
One, who did not want to be named, said there was a big bang. "I just turned around, saw the car facing the other direction."
