A call has been made for the entire board of Aratoi to step down so new elections can be held.
It came from Stephanie Kirby, deputy chairwoman of the Friends of Aratoi, Wairarapa's Museum of Art and History, who was speaking on behalf of her organisation during a public forum at Masterton District Council's Policy and Finance Committee meeting on Wednesday.
Mrs Kirby said the Friends committee of 12 were "totally of one voice" on seeking the board's dissolution.
She said the Aratoi board consisted of a non-elected, temporary chairman, three members elected within the last year or so and a single long-standing iwi representative.
The temporary chairman, Frazer Mailman, had been proposed by Masterton Mayor Garry Daniell when the electoral college met two months ago.
Mrs Kirby said there had been no agenda to advise people at that meeting of the proposed appointment nor has there been any minutes provided from that meeting.
She said if the Aratoi community as a whole had been kept properly informed of what was happening some of the fallout may not have happened.
This includes the sacking of board member Paul Melser, the sudden resignation of accountant Fiona Reid and the pending departure of Aratoi director Marcus Boroughs.
Mrs Kirby submitted that the relationship between the district council and Aratoi needed careful scrutiny, as other stakeholders could well feel left out of the loop.
South Wairarapa Mayor Adrienne Staples had written to the electoral college commenting "you pay more, so you know more".
Mrs Kirby said a community- based, not-for-profit organisation like Aratoi did not need to be driven by a corporate or business ethos but does need to move forward in an inclusive way with all parties on board.
Before Mrs Kirby spoke, the council invited Mr Mailman to update councillors on aspects of Aratoi.
He said paper work around Aratoi needed to be updated and the board had agreed that 2005 employment service agreement covering the position of director and also of its deed of governance would be reviewed by an independent advisor.
Mr Mailman said he would be talking to each staff member to gauge their thoughts on how Aratoi could move forward.
