A Masterton motorcyclist escaped with just a few bumps and bruises after a crash on his Harley Davidson in Chapel St yesterday.
Pastor Rik Edmonds from Soulway Church was taken to hospital after the incident about 11am near a pedestrian crossing.
Police said it appeared he had driven into the back of a trailer being towed by a ute, which had stopped at the crossing.
Masterton police sergeant Simon Irving said the 56-year-old was taken to Wairarapa Hospital for some precautionary x-rays, but thought he just had a few bumps and bruises. Mr Edmonds was discharged from hospital a few hours after the accident.
Gary Esler, a UCOL lecturer, said he heard the crash and came out to see what happened.
"Basically I just saw him laying out on the ground. He was conscious and talking, he had his Harley Davidson but it didn't look like there was too much damage."
Mr Esler said there was confusion about whether an ambulance had been called, resulting in the ambulance arriving 20 minutes after the incident, and stressed the importance of double-checking.
"If in doubt, make that second call, it's better than no call at all."
