A driver who died after crashing a vehicle into a tree near Hamilton last Friday has been named by police.
Hamilton man Mathew Whiu Morehu Yorston, 39, died in the crash on Marychurch Rd, south of the city, about 11am.
Police said the crash happened after Mr Yorston's vehicle crossed the centre line.
He was the sole occupant of the vehicle and died at the scene.
No other vehicles were involved.
"On behalf of New Zealand police we would like to offer our condolences to the family of Mr Yorston," Waikato district road policing manager Inspector Freda Grace said today.
The Waikato police serious crash unit was still investigating the cause of the crash.
The matter has been referred to the coroner.
