An ambitious Waikato have announced several new signings ahead of the 2016 NPC.
The Waikato season is already underway with the first Ranfurly Shield defence successfully negotiated - an 83-13 win over Thames Valley in Paeroa - and preparations will now begin to ramp up with the NPC now less than two months away.
And with the season opener fast approaching, Waikato has confirmed a few key members of their 2016 squad including Isaac Boss, Stephen Donald, Sam Christie and Willis Halaholo.
Boss made his return to Waikato colours in the Thames Valley match and is signed for 2016, while Stephen Donald is back again after an injury-plagued comeback in 2015.
First five Sam Christie is another familiar face returning to the province. He played the last of his 42 matches for Waikato in 2013 and has signed on for this season after finishing up a stint in Italy.
Hurricanes midfield back Willis Halaholo has signed from Southland for 2016 before heading off to the Cardiff Blues at the end of the year.
Waikato head coach Sean Botherway said: "The experience of these four will complement the young players in our squad nicely and their leadership will be a huge boost to our 2016 campaign. Isaac, Stephen and Sam are all passionate Waikato men who have given a lot for the red, yellow and black jersey and we are looking forward to them contributing once again this season. Willis has been a standout at NPC level in recent years and has plenty of Super Rugby experience so he will provide us with a very solid option in midfield."
