A motorist was stabbed, bludgeoned with an iron bar and had his car stolen as he waited to board the Interislander ferry at Wellington in the early hours of yesterday.
The three attackers confronted the Nelson man at the Aotea Quay terminal about 12.30 am in front of waiting passengers. The man, aged in his 40s, was taken to Wellington Hospital with knife wounds to his neck, chest and shoulder. His condition was moderate last night.
The man was standing outside his car with the engine running, waiting to be directed up the ramps, when he was attacked, said Inspector Jim Taare.
"One of the persons hit the complainant over the head with an iron bar and also threatened him with a knife. The three offenders got into his vehicle and drove away."
Police recovered the stolen car yesterday morning.
