Forfar drew attention to her chance at Te Awamutu on Sunday with a smart gallop at Matamata yesterday.
On a good plough, Forfar had pace on over 1200m in 1:14, the 1000 in 1:0.6 and 600 in 37.5. Te Manaia also excelled over 1200, taking 1:15.2, the 1000 in 1:1 and 600 in 36.2.
Te Akau Dancer and Te Akau Tudor kept on terms over 1000m in 1:1, the 600 in 35.8. Mi Capistrano went smoothly over 1200 in 1:17.2, the 600 in 36.8.
Emerald Dream strode 1200m freely in 1:16.4, the 600 in 36.2. Kensington Flyer did similar work in 1:16.2 and 36.2.
Anatomy covered 800m in 52, the 600 in 37.6. Mastercard and Alyeska ended 1200 together in 1:17.2, the 600 in 39.
Prefer To Race did an easy 800m in 52.6, the 600 in 38.8. Baccarat was not after time over 1200 in 1:23.8, the 600 in 39.6.
Acuity was hard held over 1200m in 1:25, the 600 in 40.6. Jet Zee covered 1200 in 1:21, the 600 in 39.2.
Golden Dawn dashed 1000m in 1:4, the 600 in 37.4. Taradiddle cut out 1200 freely in 1:18, the 600 in 38.5.
Dominant worked well at Te Awamutu in preparation for the 3-year-old race at Tauranga tomorrow, taking 1:4.6 for 1000m on a deep plough, the last 600 in a smart 35.6.
Mr Brook went 1000m with The Immortal One in 1:4.6, the 600 in 39.4. Kickit also returned 1:4.6 for 1000m, the 600 in 36.2.
Bobby Bouchet went fast early over 1000m in 1:6.4, the 600 in 40.8. Le Rah went twice round, the final 1000 in 1:8.5 and 600 in 39.8.
Steal A March ran 600m twice, in 41.5 and 38.8. Regal Belle sprinted 600 in 37.7.
The maidens Sprig Bar and Devoika looked prospects for the weekend when galloping on a slow plough at Takanini. Sprig Bar, who makes his debut at Te Awamutu, dashed 1000m in 1:2.2, the 600 in 36.5. Tauranga contender Devoika did 1000 in 1:5.4, the 600 in 36.7.
The Red Dimple galloped well under a fair weight over 1200m in 1:20.5, the 600 in 37. Sunline ran 600 in 40.3 in her first fast gallop since she won the Cox Plate. Shading hit out freely over 1200 in 1:20.1, the 600 in 38.7.
Country Kash, a candidate for Tauranga, showed speed over 800m on a firm plough at Cambridge in 49.5.
Medley also hit out well to record 1:6 for 1000m, the 600 in 38. Cool Sound started easily from the 1200 and ran the last 1000 in 1:6.2, the 600 in 39.2.
Kia Kakama worked easily over 600m in 39. Hello Dolly was firmly held over 800m on the sand in 53.2.
At Te Rapa, Esther Mary showed a turn of speed over 1000m on a firm No 2 grass in 1:3.4, the 600 in 38.1.
Elleneeze ran 1200m steadily in 1:22.4, the 600 in 40.1. Country Squire strode 1200 in 1:20.2, the 600 in 39.3.
On the sand, Wai Wai Nui went 1200m boldly in 1:19.9, the 600 in 37. Heiss did 1000 on the plough in 1:3.3, the 600 in 37.7.
She's A Meanie was the only horse who worked at speed at Avondale. She wound up for the Thames Valley Stakes with 1000m on a fast plough in 1:4.1, the 600 in 36.
Nudge, a favoured runner at Tauranga, galloped in fine style on a good plough at Te Aroha, covering 1000m under a hold in 1:10, the 600 in 40.9.
Diamond Runner sprinted 600m in 40.4. Manchu Warrior did 1200 in 1:19.3, the 600 in 38.9.
River Reach galloped satisfactorily at Pukekohe, taking 55.1 for 800m on the fibre track, the 600 in 38.2.
