The Government is looking at a review of the immigration points system.
Prime Minister Helen Clark says it is ridiculous that highly talented people who could help our economy grow are stymied by the current system.
She says New Zealand is bidding for skills in the global market and the current points system has not kept up with the increasing mobility of skilled workers.
Senior Government Ministers will be discussing changes with Miss Clark aimed at making the immigration process easier for top qualified people looking to work here.
Miss Clark says just as young kiwis like to take their talents abroad, there are foreigners who wish to come here to work.
She says if the system is not changed it could also contribute to the drain of skilled New Zealanders that leave to seek work overseas.
