What was your greatest holiday?
I have been going to a beach house in the Medoc region of France for a couple of years now. The house is perfectly situated just steps away from the wide beaches of the Atlantic Ocean and bordered by seemingly endless pine forests. With the daily village markets, abundant fresh seafood, and some of the best wines in the world, what more could you ask for?
And the worst?
Anything that involved a "package deal" or labelled itself a "party destination".
If we bump into you on holiday, what are you most likely to be doing?
Probably sleeping.
If we could teleport you to one place in New Zealand for a week-long holiday, where would it be?
The Mermaid Pools at Matapouri Bay.
How about for a dream holiday internationally?
Well, New Zealand has topped the list for many years, but following that would be Hawaii or French Polynesia.
What's the dumbest thing you've ever done when travelling?
A colleague and I got locked into a three-hour conversation with a street philosopher in Sao Paolo Brazil - which eventually led to a secluded park where the police stopped us and took us in for our "protection". Apparently our philosopher friend had done this before...
What's the best travel tip you've ever been given?
Eat at Shoraian in Arashiyama, Kyoto. Extraordinary.
Favourite airport at which to land?
Miami. Because, even though I have lived in Europe for 15 years, it still feels like coming home.
What's the next trip you've got planned?
Copenhagen.
