The skies over Masterton reverberate with WWI fighter aircraft performing mock dogfights and handling displays during The Vintage Aviator Remembrance Day WWI Air Show on November 13. On the ground there'll be food stalls, games, competitions and free rides in vintage vehicles for the kids. It runs 1-5pm.

Lest we forget
Armistice Day commemorations in Cambridge aim to both formally remember WWI, and educate the public. Battles are re-enacted, and there are military vehicle parades, aerial demonstrations by warbird aircraft, live firing demonstrations, plus static displays of aircraft, military vehicles, uniforms and museum collections. It takes place in Memorial Park, November 13-14.

Scotland the brave
If the skirl of bagpipes and beat of side-drums stirs your blood, head to picturesque Hamilton Gardens for the Pipe Band Contest on November 20. The afternoon of Scottish music starts at noon and entry is free.

Boats and blooms
Akaroa opens up its homes and gardens for the Inside Out Garden Tour, November 20-21. It's a chance to discover beautiful gardens in the village and surrounding bays, and others that are hidden down winding streets or situated on headlands overlooking the water. On the same weekend, there's a Classic and Traditional Boat Regatta featuring a range of wooden craft.
