Tauranga Hunting & Fishing, in association with Beretta and the Western Bay of Plenty Fish and Game Club, is hosting a Duck Shooters Social Shoot on Sunday, to introduce members and non members to sporting clay shooting at Turner's farm south of Katikati.
WBOP Fish and Game Club chairman Alistair Wells says they hold the shoot prior to the game bird season as a way for shooters to get in some practice for duck shooting.
"It's a day when we open our facilities to members and non members all with an equal chance to walk away with the top prize - a $1500 voucher - as sponsored by Hunting & Fishing and Beretta New Zealand. The main prize is drawn from entry forms received on the day so everyone has a chance to win."
There will also be other prizes supplied by Hunting & Fishing to be won along with raffles.
Food and beverages will be for sale.
"We welcome anyone with an interest in shooting, either clay bird or field shooting to join the club as a way to further their involvement in the sport. We encourage juniors to come and have a shoot. Juniors without a license will need to be supervised."
Ammunition can be purchased on the day.
"If participants wish to bring their own ammunition, the club requests that they please use cartridges with fibre wads. As the shoot is held on a working farm we try to reduce the amount of plastic waste as much as possible," Alistair says.
"This is a fun day that we try not to get to serious about scores and try to encourage people to have a go."
The club was formed 25 years ago as a way for local shooters to be in touch and to run organised events like this.
The club holds three main sporting clay shoots a year and a number of field shoots at various locations, mostly local.
