People can make a day of getting up close to some fleecy friends this weekend.
Ruth Hutton, one of the Greenbank Alpacas owners, says they open up the farm every year to celebrate National Alpaca Day.
Owners throughout New Zealand open their farms to the public to promote alpacas, alpaca fibre and alpaca products.
Ruth says Greenbank Alpacas have been holding open days since 2009 and many people come who do not know anything about alpacas.
It is open to anyone, is free and will be going ahead rain or shine from 10am to 3pm on Sunday.
Ruth says everyone goes away having enjoyed themselves.
"It's quite a full on day."
She says they have a good display on the farm, and people can get up close to the alpacas and feel their fleece.
There will also be some alpacas that can be led around, she says.
"It's really an enjoyable day for everyone involved."
Ruth says alpacas are inquisitive and all have different temperaments.
"It's just something about them that mesmerises you. They are so cuddly and stand there and hum."
She says there will be an information booklet on alpacas people can take.
There will also be items such as duvets and throws so people can see the end product.
Four alpaca farms in Rotorua are holding open days for National Alpaca Day.
The other farms taking part are Cherry Lane Alpacas, Brenor Alpaca and Andigenetix.
