Pirongia Rural Fire Force recently held their Annual Honours Night, hosting visitors including life members, Te Awamutu Brigade members, Waipa District Council Principal Rural Fire Officer Chuck Davis, Principal Rural Fire Officer Otorohanga District David Brown, family and friends.
Chief Officer Bruce Budd welcomed firefighters and guests to the last Honours Night under the name of Pirongia Rural Fire Force.
Mr Budd spoke about changes on July 1 next year which signal a new era for the brigade.
He said they'll still be the Pirongia Brigade and Station 58, but will then come under a new organisation called Fire and Emergency New Zealand.
Mr Brown also spoke of the future change and the positive aspects of what is coming nationwide.
Otorohanga District Council presented a certificate of appreciation to the Pirongia Rural Fire Force.
Mr Budd and Deputy Alan Dalton presented the awards, honouring commitment and service to the community.
Two year bars achieving the following years of service: Graeme Daysh (39 years), Bruce Budd (23), Alan Dalton and Bill Reymer (21), Sheryl Ellis (13), Tracy De Thierry (11), Jean McKenzie (9), Mark Seebeck and Darryn Yates (7).
Five year medals: Heath Boddie, Bevan Mills, Mark Zeuren and Nick McMonagle.
