Are you up for a revolution? Tickets are flying out the door for this coming weekend's annual grass roots music festival, Sanctuary Sounds.
Set on a 2.2ha rural property in Central Hawke's Bay this festival is celebrating its 10th anniversary and features a jam-packed line-up of local and international music talent over three days.
The reputation of the event is such that this year organisers have had to turn away bands, but headlining the 23 acts that will be entertaining from Friday night through to Sunday are two bands that have been making waves since they hit the music scene.
X-Factor finalists Brendon Thomas and the Vibes will take to the stage on Friday night, the trio of frontman Brendon Thomas, drummer Timothee Nolier and bassist Michael Anderson ramping up the party with their bohemian rock stylings.
On Saturday night, Wellington seven piece, neo-dub/soul/psychedelia ensemble Tunes of I, who cite Kora, Fat Freddys Drop and The Black Seeds as inspiration are sure to rock the house.
Born out of the famed New Zealand School of Music in 2011, the then three-piece band has spent the ensuing years expanding their repertoire, and comprises a solid backbone of drums, bass, vocals and guitars, complemented by some of Wellington's finest horn players.
Audience-goers can expect an original, tight and refreshingly dynamic live performance from these lads, who will be the icing on the cake of a full day of eclectic acts including Midge McLeary, Old Man's Beard, Lovers in Monaco, Hot Janola, Monty Bevins and the infamous naughty nuns, The Dirty Habits.
Also appearing over the weekend will be reggae favourites The Rude Boyz, Detour, Killing Bear, Bay Batucada, London-based Yossarian and more.
The theme for this year's event is "Are you up for a revolution?" an abstract concept that festival co-organiser Danielle Burns said can be interpreted in any way, from your favourite revolutionary musician to a reflection of a revolutionary movement.
Throughout the weekend there will be food and craft stalls to peruse, and camping is available and included in the ticket price.
Despite its success the future of the festival venue is in jeopardy and a givealittlepage fundraiser has been set up to crowdfund towards buying the property to set up as a festival venue, as well as a musician and artist retreat - givealittle.co.nz/cause/savesanctuarysounds
