When Richard Milne launched Milne Contracting and Engineering about a year ago he kept his head down and got on with things.
But now a little over a year later he's settled into the job and is ready to start promoting his business.
Although he's based in Waverley, Mr Milne covers territory well beyond those borders.
His engineering skills cover a broad range from shearing plant and wool presses (including installation), general engineering and handles general farm and factory maintenance.
"I've got a farming background but have been engineering for about 12 years. I was working at Tasman Tanning but left there just over a year ago to start up on my own," he said.
A sheep and beef farm in Waverley keeps him busy during rare down time.
Mr Milne is also service agent for Heiniger shearing gear and woolpresses and the agent for Lister and Supershear shearing equipment. He also services water pumps and stock handling gear along with general engineering work.
He's also designing, building and marketing dog boxes and trailers under his own Strong Eyed brand.
His skills take him to clients in South Taranaki, Whanganui and Taihape but the Heineger contract covers an area down to Wellington and north to Taumarunui. He's one of four North Island services agents.
"I've also been doing a few woolshed modifications, handling some farm water scheme and effluent pumps.
"The business is coming along but like all new things it takes time to get established," Mr Milne said.
