This last week has again been a busy time for Levin police staff with all the usual complaints, offences and calls for assistance featuring.
Some great work has been done by our front line staff.
Road policing featured in last week's report and predictions of high traffic volumes over the Labour Weekend holiday period certainly turned out to be the case.
The usual bottlenecks and heavy traffic at Otaki and Otaihanga once again caused delays, so it was great to hear there were no crashes involving serious injury in the Horowhenua that I am aware of.
This is an outstanding result and people travelling on the roads should be commended for their patience and safe driving.
I have no doubt that the lower speed tolerance had a huge impact, but members of the public travelling on our roads would have witnessed a large police presence throughout the district enforcing breaches of traffic law.
Locally, police have noticed a recent trend of trailer, quad bike and motor bike thefts across the whole of Levin.
To help prevent becoming a victim of a theft or burglary, householders are urged to be vigilant about securing their homes, including sheds and garages.
Extra care should be taken with trailers, quad bikes and motor bikes by not only locking them away but also removing keys to a safe place and possibly using a secondary locking device, such as clamps and chains.
Burglaries have been on the decline recently.
This is no coincidence, achieved as a result of detailed investigations, proactive enquires and some excellent work by Levin Tactics section which has seen offenders arrested, put before the courts and remanded in custody.
If residents have any concerns about suspicious behaviour or activity, call the police as soon as possible.
To wrap up this week, if anyone has information they wish to pass onto police about any investigation, calls can be made direct to the Levin station on 3660500, via Crimestoppers on 0800555111, or call into the Levin station.
