Northland College old boy and local businessman Robin Craig worked up a real sweat last week when he fired up the blacksmith's at Kaikohe's Pioneer Village.
He began acquiring his engineering skills at Northland College, he said, going on to run a successful engineering business in Kaikohe for many years.
Robin had an audience last week of 13 UCOL trade students, who were keen to watch and learn from a master craftsman, from firing up the forge to finishing the job of resettling a set of leaf springs for a truck, with a great deal of heating and hammering.
Robin said he was pleased to be able to give the students to see, learn and appreciate the skills and knowledge of a trade that was now becoming a rarity.
