Tennis: Fanning wins opening doubles clash

New Zealand's top junior female tennis player Emily Fanning and her Russian partner Alina Silich beaten the French pairing of Lou Brouleau and Jade Suvrijn in the first round of the French Open juniors at Roland Garros overnight.

The Kiwi/Russian duo won 6-4 7-6 (2) and now face Anna Danilina (KAZ) and Victoria Kan (RUS) in the second round.

Danilina and Kan knocked out seventh seeds Krista Hardebeck and Chalena Scholl of USA in the first round.

Fanning and Silich get a rest tonight and their next round is likely to be Thursday morning.
