Paquin will play Nancy Montgomery opposite Sarah Gadon, who plays the titular role of Grace Marks.
The story follows Grace - an Irish immigrant and domestic servant in Canada who was convicted alongside a colleague for murdering Nancy Montgomery and their employer, Thomas Kinnear in 1843.
Nancy, Kinnear's housekeeper and lover, becomes jealous of his affection for Grace and eventually fires her, but is found brutally murdered soon after.
The show is written and executive produced by Sarah Polley, and directed by Mary Harron, and will be broadcast globally on Netflix.
Polley told Variety: "Anna is an incredibly versatile performer who always makes complex, unpredictable and fascinating choices in her work. It's always a marvel to watch her and we're thrilled to have her join the cast."
