Duncan Garner has been named as TV3's most powerful presenter in a new list that contains plenty of surprises.
Compiled by The Spinoff's stable of TV experts, the "First Annual MediaWorks Presenter Power Rankings" considers audience reach and social media presence among other factors in their ranking decisions.
Garner tops the list with his multi-platformed position. He presents RadioLive for three hours on weekday afternoons, then pops up an hour later on TV3s Story at 7pm Monday to Thursday.
"Garner's ascent to the top of the these rankings was inevitable, given that MediaWorks has essentially draped itself around him like a garish polyester cloak, conforming to his shape, his motion," mused The Spinoff.
"He is MediaWorks, and MediaWorks is he: a brash, unrepentant workaholic with mainstream views held very, very strongly."
Surprisingly, second place was taken by Friday evening duo Jono and Ben, whose comedy show is currently on hiatus, followed by longtime news anchor Hillary Barry at No. 3.
Barry's former 3News co-host Mike McRoberts features a couple of spots below at No. 5, while her morning co-host Paul Henry sits just below him at No. 6.
Other presenters in the top 20 include The Edge morning hosts JJ and Dom (No. 7), Newsworthy presenter Samantha Hayes (No. 10) and Dominic Bowden (No. 14).
The Spinoff said the list was compiled after "the most turbulent in MediaWorks' history" - one that's seen John Campbell leave after the demise of Campbell Live, as well as an increase in reality show content like The Bachelor, Dancing with the Stars and Come Dine With Me.
