The third series of the Showtime drama based loosely on the lives of ground-breaking sex researchers William Masters and Virginia Johnson takes a leap forward in its new season.
The show jumps from the late 1950s to the mid 1960s with the pair - played by Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan - about to publish their book Human Sexual Response based on their near-decade of research covered in the earlier seasons.
The first episode sees the pair facing the press and being asked if the volume is opportunist in its timing, given America's fast-changing attitudes.
"We are the sexual revolution," counters Johnson.
While they became public figures with the book's release, the show offers its own speculation on their relationship - and how their affair has transformed into a three-way relationship with Masters' wife, Libby.
"Libby is aware of what is going on between her husband and Johnson and has come to an odd sort of peace about it," says show creator Michelle Ashford. "Libby even approaches Virginia with the idea of making a pact of sorts - an agreement between the two women - about how this three-way marriage might work."
The series promises a whole new set of patients flocking to the pair for treatment now that they have been anointed as the sex gurus of the age.
