Halfback TJ Perenara made a huge impact in his debut season with the Hurricanes and it has earned him a new two-year deal with the franchise and Wellington through to the end of 2014.

The 20-year-old has been out with a broken ankle since June, picked up when scoring a try at the end of the Hurricanes' exhibition match against the Reds, and it's doubtful he will recover in time to play for Wellington in the latter stages of the ITM Cup.

He is a lively, combative and quick halfback who had been talked about as a possible All Black before his injury after helping the Hurricanes to the verge of the Super Rugby playoffs.

"I'm excited to be with Wellington and the Hurricanes for another two seasons. This is my home and I can't wait to get back on the field and play some footy,'' Perenara said.

Hurricanes coach Mark Hammett added: "TJ made a good start in his first season with the Hurricanes and we are looking forward to continuing to work with him to develop his game and continue the progression of his career. He works hard off the field to learn and develop his game and I'm sure he will come back better and stronger in 2013 after his injury.''
