The Stratford Swimming club this weekend has its biggest contingent yet competing at the junior national championship.
"Stratford has consistently placed in the top 10 clubs in the last five to six years behind large metropolitan clubs. We are the strongest junior club in Taranaki this year," says club chairperson Diane Cooper.
Here is some facts on the 11 competing this weekend in Wellington (as pictured from the back left):
Brooke Millar: best events, 200m and 400m freestyle; best achievement, qualifying for junior national and division 2 - this is her first nationals.
Lauree Collins: best event, 100m breaststroke; best achievement, gold in 100m breaststroke at the Wellington and Taranaki championships - this is her first nationals.
Bailee Drummond: best event, 200m breaststroke and backstroke; best achievement, qualifying for junior nationals and Division 2 - this is her first nationals.
Rebecca Brown: best event, 50m backstroke; best achievement, fifth nationally girls 10 & under 200m freestyle - this is her third year representing Taranaki at nationals.
Joshua Gilbert: best event, 200m breaststroke; best achievement, seven golds at nationals 2012, this is his 3rd year representing Taranaki at Nationals.
Chris Johnson: best event, 200m breaststroke; best achievement, qualifying for National Age Groups, this is his third year representing Taranaki at nationals.
Adele O'Byrne: best event, 50m freestyle; best achievement, gold 50m freestyle at Taranaki Champs - this is her first nationals.
Claudia Taylor: best event, 100m freestyle; best achievement, five national medals 2012 - this is her third year representing Taranaki at nationals.
Luca Zabel: best event, 50m freestyle; best achievement, qualifying for junior nationals - this is his first nationals.
Lania Hancock: best event, 200m backstroke; best achievement, qualifying for junior nationals.
