A former Pembroke School pupil has had his name added to the school's Honours Board, many years after he attended the school.
Ken Frank was born in 1925 and completed all his primary education at Pembroke school, along with his sisters Fay and Beth.
Later in life Frank served in the Pacific as a wireless mechanic during World War II and he later served as a United Nations war correspondent during the Korean War.
Although Ken has lived in Australia since 1959, his links with Taranaki remain strong, and he visited the area in December 2016 when he was in the country promoting his biography A Taranaki Lad.
During his visit, Ken took the time to visit his original classroom, which is now part of the Taranaki Pioneer Village and then came to see the new classrooms at Pembroke School itself.
Ken spoke to pupils and teachers during his visit, answering lots of questions about his memories of the school and growing up on Pembroke Road.
Following Ken's visit members of the school's jubilee committee decided to acknowledge Ken's connection to the school by adding his name to the Honours Board in the Pembroke Hall.
A framed photo of Ken has also been placed on the wall.
Pembroke School and district will be celebrating 125 years of existence on Taranaki Anniversary weekend, 9-11 March. Past pupils and residents are urged to register now.
