Amidst the ashes, cans of soft drink remain untouched, after a popular takeaway shop in Stratford caught fire on Monday night.
Yummy Takeaways, located on Broadway in Stratford, was left with major damage after the fire.
Fire crews, from Stratford, Toko, Eltham, New Plymouth and Inglewood battled the blaze which was fully involved when the first crew from Stratford arrived on the scene around 11pm.
Fire Service central shift manager David Meikle said the shop on Broadway was "well alight" when the alarm was raised by a passing police patrol.
Flames were seen coming from the shop at 10.52pm.
He said specialist investigators would be returning to the damaged takeaway bar and determine what caused the fire to start.
Meikle said it took a couple of hours to extinguish the blaze.
At its height, eight fire crews and a command unit from New Plymouth were at the scene.
A fire service spokesman said the cause of the fire was not yet known and investigations would be carried out later on Tuesday - once the building was safe to enter and visibility increased with daylight.
