Staff and residents at Elizabeth R got their walking shoes on and took part in the Bupa Baton Relay on Sunday.
Throughout July, Bupa has encouraged staff and family to participate in a range of walking events throughout New Zealand. Tying in with the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, the Baton Relay aims for participants to have walked their way around New Zealand, by covering a combined total of 15,135km, in 5km blocks. The Stratford area completed 527km.
"It isn't just about our staff or residents doing this, we are promoting wellness in the wider community through healthy lifestyles and activities such as walking or running on a regular basis," Desiree Houghton, activities officer, says.
After completing the fun walk / run all participants went back to Elizabeth R to enjoy fresh home-made soup courtesy of the chef at the rest home.
