A blessing was held on Sunday afternoon to officially open the Maternity Services Taranaki Ltd facility.
Guests were welcomed by directors Sharon Robinson and Kirsty Rance, before the blessing was led by Sandy Galvin of the Salvation Army.
Mayor Neil Volzke and MP Chester Borrows praised the tenacity of Sharon and Kirsty in ensuring that Stratford residents continued to be served by a maternity unit.
Taranaki District Health Board portfolio manager Jenny James said she valued the availability of units such as this one to help new mothers enjoy their experience with as little stress as possible.
Chester also shared his experiences "a few years ago now" of being a new father, and praised Sharon and Kirsty's inclusive attitude which sees new fathers welcomed along with their partners and new babies.
