Poppies bearing messages from Stratford High School students will be placed on the graves of New Zealand soldiers in France this month.
The venture is part of a shared history project being undertaken by Stratford High's Year 10 French class and students from College Jean Fernal in France as part of a joint intitiative by the French and New Zealand ministries of education.
Stratford High School French teacher Margaret Bullen says it is a "unique opportunity to honour relatives who are buried so far away from home".
She would love to hear from any Stratford residents who have relatives killed in World War 1 and buried in Longueval War Cemetry in the Somme.
She will pass the names to Nicolas Goret, the Jean Fernal teacher in charge of the project in France, who will have his students place poppies on the graves on May 23.
