Paramedics at the scene of an accident which saw a 30-year-old woman struck by a car on Broadway describe it as "miraculous" that the children present were not badly injured.
The accident took place on Saturday, in heavy rain and poor visibility. Witnesses say that the young woman and her children, were on the median strip in the centre of Broadway waiting to cross when they were struck by a car driving over the strip.
Senior sergeant Darrin Haenga of the Stratford police says that the accident occurred outside the video store on Broadway on Saturday evening at about 5.30pm.
The 81 year-old male driver of the car has a medical condition, however police say it is too early into the investigation to say if this could have had some bearing on the events.
Adding that the woman, who suffered a broken shoulder as a result of the incident, had "no time to react", Darrin says that the two girls with her were very lucky to only have minor bruises from it.
Both the woman and the driver of the car were treated by St John Paramedics and transported to Taranaki Base Hospital by two St John Ambulances.
