Businessman gets 26 months jail

Stratford businessman Luke Smith was sentenced to 26 months jail on cannabis charges.

Smith, 36, admitted in the New Plymouth District Court to cultivating cannabis, possessing cannabis for supply, supplying methamphetamine and cannabis and possessing cannabis seeds.

The offences occurred from November 2011 to April last year when police found 4616g of cannabis in the house he shared with a co-offender. Smith, however, last September was remanded in custody after breaching his bail by consuming methamphetamine.

His business, Ansford-Smith Motors, closed last year October.-The Court said this was a direct result of his cannabis involvement over a number of years.
