Makeover like winning Lotto

By Ilona Hanne

A Stratford 12-year-old has won what most people just dream about: a room makeover worth $5000, designed especially for him by The Block New Zealand winners Ben and Libby Crawford.

Cameron Hasler won the prize in a radio competition. It includes $1000 for the design and $4000 towards the make-over.

Cameron had to submit a photo of the room he wanted to be made over and then the radio station chose a winner. Cameron entered with a picture of the room that is to be his bedroom. He says it currently "cold and rotting", with younger brother Ethan (9) adding that "it has holes in the roof".

Pulling up some weeds growing through the less than solid frames of the room, Cameron says he is looking forward to seeing the Libby and Ben's design. In his brief to them he said he liked "army stuff", and is hopeful that the makeover will include "a really good bed".

Parents Murray and Lori Christensen, say that his three siblings are also excited.

Lori compares the prize to "winning lotto".
