Group keeps murals project going

This Monday saw the unveiling of the latest three murals in Eltham's heritage mural project.

Alex Ballantyne, deputy mayor of South Taranaki District Council, says "these things don't happen by themselves" when talking about the immense effort and hard work put in by members of the Eltham Community Development Group in organising the murals which are now visible around Eltham.

Stuart Wakeling, in introducing the murals to members of the community who had been involved in the project, commended Marilyne Gernhoefer, Judith Rodgers and Michele McDonald for "the hard work behind the scenes in keeping the project momentum going and tirelessly working to achieve their aim".

The murals were created by Ben Barrett, who was recommended to the group by the New Plymouth Real Art gallery, and depict scenes from times past in Eltham's history.
