New World Stratford is on the market.
Officially listed last week, owners Craig and Melissa Waite, Jimmy and Jackie Lim and Aaron Lim and his partner Donna, are looking to be closer to home.
Craig says the 50-minute drive each way from Oakura, where they have lived for the past 11 years, is taking itstoll.
"There are some interesting rumours about why we selling but, truth is, it is time to go.
"The travel is demanding on family life.
"There is no other reason."
New World Stratford is a family business, with Melissa and Aaron being Jackie and Jimmy's daughter and son.
Craig says family life to them is precious and that they are very involved within the community where they live. They have three children, aged 8, 10 and 12, and Aaron and Donna have a 5-year old and 4-year-old twins.
"We manage the business hands-on. Having the business so far away is difficult; we want to be in there.
"It is a really demanding business and we struggle to put in the time we want to because of the travel."
He says the business is doing really well, having grown it after taking ownership a little over five years ago.
Craig says the sale will not happen overnight - it is likely to be well into next year before it is sold. He says for the staff this could open up new opportunities into management as many New World outlets are run by one husband/wifeteam as opposed to three families at the moment.
"It is likely to be purchased by another existing New World operator. We have made a number of changes, but there are still opportunities to take it to another level.
"The staff we have here now are a great team. They have really helped us build the business.
We also really appreciate the great
support we get from the community. "
