It's a good time to be a windscreen repairer with the number of windscreens being damaged during road works
around Central Taranaki.
Over the past few weeks, road works have been underway between Tariki and Inglewood, Broadway in Stratford, Eltham and south of Eltham, which has caused havoc with drivers.
Bruce Trott from Norm Webby Ltd says the team can't believe the number of windscreens damaged from flicking stones.
``There's still more coming in every day. We finish the day shattered,'' he says.
Since the first of March, 97 windscreens have been ordered and they are ordering around a dozen each day.
Bruce says it's the most windscreens he's seen needing repairs at one time.
``I've never seen anything like this in my whole life. It's down to people going too fast in the speed restrictions and even passing.''
It's the same story in New Plymouth at Novus Taranaki.
``It's been flat out. It's definitely not the normal amount of cars we have through, because of road works. There's a fair few here and we have more coming in every day,'' says Alan Hooper.
In a two-week period, Alan says they have had 40-50 cars come in with cracks caused specifically by the road works.
The New Zealand Transport Agency had not received any complaints about the damages when the Stratford Press spoke to it on Thursday. ``If anyone has a claim they should contact the contractor, Downers New Plymouth,'' says principal asset manager for NZTA, John Jones.
