Stratford A&P Show - a spectacular event

Once again the annual Stratford A&P; Show has come and gone and organisers are extremely pleased with the outcome.
Christine Hughes, Stratford A&P; Show secretary, estimated between 7000 to 8000 people passed through the showgrounds for the near-perfect event.
"The biggest crisis we had was one lost child. It's been one of our best opening days and it went without a hitch." Christine said the smooth running was due to solid preparation and a great team.
Some show-goers had to queue more than a kilometre away from the entrance and slowly gained access after waiting several minutes to gain entry.
The return of Miss Stratford A&P; Show Girl was a highlight during the weekend. The 10 contestants painted children's faces, handed out ribbons to prize winners and started many events.
Sonia Dunn, Miss Buckeye Products from Kaimata, was crowned the winner Sunday afternoon, with Amanda Severinsen, Miss Hairfashions, named runner-up. Miss Taranaki Ayrshire Club, Lauren Price, was named Miss Friendship.
Sonia won a $1000 travel prize from Harvey World Travel Eltham.
Naturally Alpacas from New Plymouth won the best commercial trade site and a joint display from Road Safe Taranaki and the Stratford Fire Brigade won best non-commercial site.
The Taylors' Holstein Friesian, SRD Muritai Leader was named the premier milking cow by four visiting judges.
A&P; Show president Ivan Fredrickson said the dairy classes attracted a level of breeder support which made Stratford one of the best dairy sections in the country.
Magician, Joel Fenton from Palmerston North, and the Lone Ryders horse stunt performers provided great entertainment at the show.
The Stratford Press would like to apologise to any show-goers who tried to find our site on Sunday.

Unfortunately, due to circumstances out of our control, we were unable to man our site. If anyone has a colouring-in competition, community group coupon or a Stratford Press survey form, please bring it to our office on Miranda Street. Entries close Friday 5pm.
