Jaclyn Hawkes has shown good stamina to pull off a surprise result at the Singapore Masters women's squash tournament.

The New Zealand has advanced to the quarterfinals after disposing of Egyptian world No 6 Omneya Abdel Kawy in five tough games overnight (NZT).

Hawkes, ranked 14th in the world, beat Kawy 11-9 8-11 10-12 11-7 11-8 in a marathon contest lasting close to 1-/2 hours.

The match was Hawkes' third in as many days after she battled through qualifying to enter the main draw.

That has booked Hawkes a quarterfinal against world No 4 Madeline Perry, of Ireland.

Another New Zealander, Joelle King, was eliminated in the first round of the tournament proper when she went down 11-5 2-11 9-11 3-11 in 36 minutes to world No 3 Australian Rachael Grinham.
