TAURANGA - A mother accused of trying to drown her 4-year-old daughter in a bath pleaded guilty in the Tauranga District Court yesterday to a charge of assault on a child.
Name suppression and bail, granted at earlier hearings, were continued by Judge Ian Thomas, who remanded the woman until early next month for sentencing.
Sergeant Keith Elliott said the 24-year-old was having a bath with her daughter at 9.45 pm on July 30.
The child was grizzly and the mother pushed her head under the water until she turned blue.
The woman then panicked and called an ambulance. The 4-year-old spent the night in hospital but was otherwise unharmed.
